I tend to look elsewhere in the world when thinking up imagery for cultures pertaining to my current theme. This time, I wanted to explore something a bit closer to home utilizing my Hispanic heritage. I decided to focus on the attire of the Aztec dancers. I am fascinated by how the brilliant colours and textures of their costumes flash by during their vigorous dance moves. The grand headdresses stay in place and flow with each step. The lithe movements and grace of their bodies while they perform in cohesive unity is simply spectacular and I wanted to show my appreciation and acknowledge a part of my own culture with my artwork’s portrayal.
